Survival Basics – Core Survival Skills You Can Learn today

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Learning to survive is more important today than ever before. Nothing is stable anymore, the economy is in ruins. Countries are collapsing faster than souffles baking on a freight train. Jobs are becoming scarce and food shortages may become realty. Now is the best time to learn how to become self sufficient or at least, at the very minimum, how to save your own skin in an emergency. To survive you need to have the right skills, you need good survival gear, you need to maintain a stable optimistic frame of mind, and having a little luck can’t hurt. Finally you need to have a plan to deal with emergencies.

Getting through a disaster alive requires simple but specialized skills and tactics. Survival skills are easy to learn but, they still must be acquired before a disaster happens. When there are riots, floods, severe storms and other emergencies that may cut off access to normal methods of getting food and protection, you need to know what to do to keep your self alive. You have to know a few ways to make a fire to keep yourself warm during cold weather as well as to cook food. You need to learn where to get food when commercially available food is not available or has run out. You need to learn medical skills that will allow you to treat your injuries should you get any. You need know how to build a shelter to protect yourself in case you are exposed in hospitable conditions.

To make your life easier and to increase your chances of staying alive during any disaster, a blizzard or a riot for example, you should gather together specialized equipment or gear that will help things like that happen. Your survival gear should be kept in a bag or pack, also called a bug out bag, in an easily accessible but secure place. This kit should include, at the minimum, implements for finding or hunting food, things for treating any injuries you may have sustained. It should also include temporary shelter and tools to make a more permanent shelter.

You will be overwhelmed if during a catastrophe you don’t maintain self control. You need to get a grip on your emotions and keep a positive mindset. If you let negative thoughts take control of you and lose hope you could succumb to death.

It is a bad idea to hope for random good luck during a disaster, but you can create your own luck. Learning to utilize items you may find around you in different ways then they were designed to be used will help you make your own good luck. Thinking about different uses for the objects you find will save your life when you need to survive, because often enough when you are put into a bad state you need to improvise.

Lastly you need to create emergency plan. Your plan should contain procedures you will utilize during a disaster. You need to know where to go, how you get to your predetermined location, how to signal for help, how you will get food and so forth.

It should include event specifics, i.e. blackout survival procedures vs. food shortage survival procedures. Before you draft your plan, write down what disasters you could encounter based upon where you live. Put them in order of most likely to happen to least likely to happen, and then modify your plan from there.

The world is getting to be an unforgiving place. With civil unrest, Job loss and soon food shortages becoming the norm, you need to get the knowledge and learn the skills that will save your life if these things come knocking on your door.

Cannons 101 – Cannons & Rocketry in Current Day

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Cannons are examples of heavy weaponry used in combat. Most countries learned how to make cannons during the war. There is still a place in the world for this kind of knowledge even in the time of peace. The basic cannon has no place in today’s warfare scenario. But the principles of cannon making can be applied for creating other devices. Cannon making techniques can best be applied in pyrotechnics.

Cannons or rockets are used to shoot projectiles like pyrotechnics. The construction of rocketry is different from that of a cannon. But, many of the rocket manufacturers are conscious of the basic concepts of cannon making. A shot is projected by manipulating the device inside the cannon or rocket. Continual fiddling with the apparatus is needed for preparing the release . Although rocketry are easier to create, they are less accurate in comparison to real cannons. Cannons are made from more durable material, while rocketry are more of ad hoc devices that will not pass the muster of a military arsenal manager.

A cannon is made of metal and fortified with safety features so that the ammunition will not detonate prematurely. In ancient days, several individuals are needed to work a cannon. One or two soldiers are needed to prepare the projectile, and more are essential for cleaning up after a release. The most awful that could come about is jamming of the projectile.

A rocket is no less dangerous in comparison to a cannon if it were to be used for shooting ammo. But most rockets are used for entertainment purposes like pyrotechnics. Improvised rockets make poor cannons. But the concepts of construction are similar.

Cannons and rockets were created around the same time but rocketry were used mostly for amusement. First rocket models are mostly unpredictable. Accidents could arise if the handling is not top quality. One good thing about rocketry is that there is little or no recoil. Like when using weapons, the user should be careful not to be injured by the weapon recoil. It is great to have resources that discuss present-day cannon making, particularly if the goal of the person is to apply the concepts in modern rocketry.

Grenades: Extraordinary Weapons of War

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The grenade is one proof that a destructive weapon need not be excessively big. The hand grenade will always be one of the main guns of conflict with huge destructive power. These firearms are lethal against humans and destructive against defenses. A hand grenade is utilized to reduce an opponent’s line of defense as well as to cut off pursuit. The grenade resembles the berry of the pomegranate, from which it was named. But the shape is not the only thing that a grenade has in typical with the plant. Perhaps it is also the fact that the berry of this tree explodes when ripe that made early innovators name the tool after it.

Grenades are clipped on infantrymen ‘ belts, or straps. An ordinary soldier carries one or two of these units. A pin keeps the device secure, and the device will only blow off after explosion. A soldier needs to manually remove the pin to discharge the grenade. Some troopers employ this only when they run out of firearms, or when the state of affairs calls for it.

The blast from one single unit of hand grenade is impossible to ignore. The deadly factors are the sharp objects hidden inside the hand grenade.

Vehicles are often destroyed by one hand grenade unit. Enemy soldiers camp out along roads just to be able to wreck the heavily fortified supply trucks. Only the most sturdy combat automobiles are able to resist a direct attack using hand grenades.

Early hand grenades are bulky, but the concept of hiding projectiles inside the casing has been preserved in modern counterparts. The first ever grenades were made of ceramic or metal and jam-packed with firearm powder. Besides the design of the hand grenade, the mode by which it is discharged changed little over time. The gadget needs to be hauled above a certain expanse to land on the adversary’s protective structures. But now, modern hand grenades are thrown using launchers.

A hand grenade launcher is a weapon that throws a grenade more accurately than a human being. This is especially helpful when the goal is to scatter an army from afar. Grenade launchers look like firearms, but some are mounted on trucks.

The Zombie Apocalypse: A Metaphor For Survival In A Modern Age

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Approximately a year ago my closest friend urged me to read through World War Z by Max Brooks. In the beginning I was pretty averse. Zombie style stuff just simply wasn’t for me. Just after some pushing, I came around and purchased the book. A chapter into it and I was not able to put the book down; I was hooked. After that, I plowed through several related books and movies. What actually seduced me by Zombie Apocalypse fictional works was the similarity between real life scenarios and what various writers like Max Brooks have been creating. I came to understand the key reasons why a large number of people in and around survival communities frequently had an interest in Zombie Apocalypse Fiction and would say silly expressions including, “When the Zombie Apocalypse comes.” I now grasp that for them, and at present for me, Zombies became a metaphor.

If you simply swap Zombie Apocalypse with economic collapse, pandemic, or natural disaster you could still have effectively the very same story. This is the reason why Zombie Fiction makes such a riveting metaphor for modern-day survival, and especially Urban Survival. It does not matter if we are debating about undead hordes or rioting mobs, the nuts and bolts are all the same. It has grow to be a solution for several individuals to convey the same exact basic concept about two outwardly different topics of survival.

The euphemism of Zombies makes having a dialogue a little less difficult. It’s far easier to say, “When the Zombies Apocalypse comes” and sound like a nerd than it is to say, “When X happens” and sound like a tin foil hat-wearing crazy person. We can hypothesize about it, play with it, and it’s all in jest. Hypothesizing about real-world troubles that can present themselves is far more problematic. You remove the sentiment from the dialogue when you’re talking euphemistically.

Zombies are certainly not realistic. Perhaps in some kind of hosed-up, genetically altered virus gone Will Smith drastically wrong, presumably they could happen. Other than what could conceivably happen, it has not transpired yet, or at least there is no confirmation that Zombies exist. I just want to get this out of the way right now before anyone makes this out to be in in any manner, me believing in Zombies, and believes that I have lost my freakin mental faculties. Finally, Zombies realistic? NO.

Zombie Apocalypse Fiction gives modern Preppers the chance to get nearby to their worries without touching them outright. It’s one thing to examine a horrific tale about Zombies taking over the earth and mankind caught in a war for our very survival. It is quite another to read through a narrative about the failure of a nation and its residents wrapped in a fight for their existence. When you close the Zombie book, the fight is over or at least paused. It’s easy to state, “That could never happen” and write off the tale sufficient to rest with ease. This is much harder to do when the scenario is nearer to home. In the end, Zombie Fiction makes it possible for its readers to voyage through a hypothetical collection of scenarios without the fear of getting eaten by them.

Understanding The Unique Prophecies Of 2012

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

There are many different facets to be aware of about prophecies of 2012. Virtually every person has had some difficulty understanding the predictions that have been made about this time in history. Many people believe that this could be the end of the world. Others speak to it being a more pleasant time of spiritual awakening.

It is nearly impossible for anyone to know for certain that things will go in a certain way in the future. People should listen to the prophecies for 2012 that they have been given regarding these police systems and then make their own judgments. They should only be used as a guide to help a person make decisions about how to behave. When people become lost in the belief systems themselves they will often have difficulty working through life.

There is a system of beliefs that leads people to believe that they will be more aware at this time regarding how they should live their life. This is a good thing because most people want to be more spiritually aware than they already are. If a person is aware of the consequences of the actions they take they will be more careful in the future. The ability to prevent negative consequences is something that virtually everyone benefits from.

Throughout history there have been many other times where prophecies have not come to pass. This is why people should not be overly worried about what has been spoken previously. If people spend too much time on what might happen they are missing the opportunity to change things in this moment. This is detrimental for most individuals because they are missing out on opportunity to make positive changes.

Virtually every individual wants to know what will happen in the future. Failure to be able to understand what will happen during future events is often very difficult for people to cope with. When people do not have a clear understanding of what is coming they cannot make the proper decisions.

The future is constantly changing and most people must understand that the prophecies and predictions of 2012 are only the opinions of certain individuals. The problem with this is that these opinions do not have any long-term merit unless they are given credibility. Speaking with other people regarding these issues can be both positive and negative.

However you choose to believe, just know that it is always better to be safe than sorry. Reading up on a survive 2012 guide is still a wise thing to do!

Food, The New Currency Of The Future?

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

Right now unprecedented numbers of Americans are returning to a practice of our self reliant and independent fore- fathers, that of storing supplies of food. The events and circumstances we are facing here in America are so unfamiliar to most of us but yet so serious that we each must wisely choose how we will face our future. History has proven over and over again that food is the beginning solution to almost every major problem particularly those involving independence, freedom, security and yes even survival.

Runaway inflation in Germany and Argentina followed the same inflationary path that the US is presently on. With runaway inflation, the price of a loaf of bread doubled daily until it cost billions of the country’s currency. This is the primary reason that more and more American’s are putting away supplies of food, because food always has been, is now, and forever will be the greatest dependency, as well as the most comforting source of safety and security for every human being on our planet. Why is this happening? Read on?

Christians searching the Book of Revelation believe that for about half the 7-year tribulation or 3 years no one will be able to buy or sell without the “mark” (most consider this the ID card.) The National ID card is expected to be required in order to buy food. Global warming whether real or fabricated will likely be used to control fertilization of crops and tax farmers out of business. Legislation to prevent people from gardening is being proposed. The Doomsday Seed Vault is being built in Norway with the intent of being the only source for seed to grow food worldwide.

If in quarantines, martial law, disasters and emergencies people don’t have their own individual supplies, they will be dependent and helpless like the miserable conditions after hurricane Katrina. On the issue of guns in the possession of the people, food, or the lack of it, has always been used to take the protection of guns away from people. (Cuba, China, Germany etc.) Imported food from countries with no safety standards for insecticides, fertilizers, bacterial and chemical contamination have entered our country’s food supply and have proven to be very dangerous. Job loss and illness are hugely reduced in their impact financially and emotionally with a strong savings account of food.

Food could quickly become the currency of the future. A food supply can help you and your family survive in the event of storms or weather, or other natural disasters strike. Many predict that 2012 will lead to unanticipated global weather changes and many are concerned of possible food storage and survival.

Many companies, like e-Foods.com, that are supplies of emergency food resources are concerned that even they will be impacted by current and future crop failures. Their answer to this dilemna is the same for everyone: start now to create their own food storage supply as quickly as they can. Serious American crop failures are creating shortages of food to be processed into supplies for people to store. Even though shortages have not appeared in the grocery stores as soon as we become dependent on the 2009 crop everyone will be affected.

Fundamental Survival Skills

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Survival abilities are what individuals need to develop if they need to deal with disasters for an indefinite period. In general, you need survival skills to keep enduring when your life is threatened. You know that you have become better at survival if you understand the means to get water and food, and construct a shelter during an emergency. If you agree that there are more things about survival that you need to understand, read this survival guide.

Developing your survivor outlook means you have to keep calm in the face of danger, learn how to call for help using various means (like fire, smoke, mirrors etc.), steer safely across an unfamiliar terrain and steer clear of accidents. Some individuals have a keener sense of survival than others, especially if during their early years they were exposed to these things. Some individuals need to train in order to learn the principles of survival. How you build up these abilities is determined by you.

3 Essential Survival Abilities

1. Discovering How to Create a Survival Bag

Foresight and an eye for detail are needed in order to assemble a good survival kit. This is the kit you bring along with you if you have to leave a place. Each family member must have his or her survival kit. Make sure you have food provisions, a bottle of water, neon-colored clothes, watertight matches, batteries and pieces of clothing to keep you from hypothermia.

Select materials that can resist water. You need these things because blankets and clothes should be kept dry so you can make use of them to keep from hypothermia.

2. Physical Health

Have you heard individuals say that they become stronger when there’s a crisis situation? It’s true. Under severe stress or excitement, the body produces more adrenaline to survive. It’s the human body’s automatic response to emergency scenarios. But this rush of adrenaline and superhuman strength lasts only for a short duration. If you want to be able to keep up your strength to help yourself, your family and other people during a crisis situation, you should take up physical training exercises.

Enhance your strength by working out frequently and making sure you do strength training with a specialist. There are times when sheer power is required to help someone else, or yourself, get through a sticky situation.

3. Steering Skills

There is no need to memorize all the places in your city or town, but you must at least be able to use a map and a compass when needed. If you have always been lousy with directions, you need to buck up and learn the fundamentals now. When there’s a crisis, everything you do can affect the welfare of your family, and this includes going to the evacuation site. If you learn the basics of navigating a terrain, you will also be able to stay away from booby traps. Remember that during an emergency situation, you must be able to get from one point to another securely, and as fast as possible.

How To Prepare Your Childrens 72 Hour Survival Kits

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Emergency kits may mean the difference between life and death of you and your family in an emergency. There are many types of disasters and emergencies: fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and tornadoes. The government action plan for a major disaster is three to seven days to start providing workers to the area. 72 hours is three days – it would be a good idea to put together a survival kit that you could live on for seven to ten days.

Instead of dismissing this kind of planning out of hand; remember the types of disasters that happened in the past 15 years. Imagine what one of these would be like if you had nothing with you but what you were wearing. Even worse, consider the elderly or children that are in your care and how they would cope. To ease your mind, start creating your survival bags immediately.

Before you start packing or purchasing anything, consider what the most probable situational scenario is based upon where you are. This will lead to what you plan to do in the event of an emergency. For example, if your home is close by the ocean and the most probable problem is a hurricane, then your plan should include packing your vehicle with what you need and driving to a safe place. If you live in a city then you probably will be walking to safety either because you have no car or the streets will be so gridlocked that walking is the only option. If you live in a relatively protected area inland, then you will probably hunker down in your home.

Even though you should get ready for the most likely scenario, you should also have a fallback plan. There may come a time in your life when you have to get away as fast as possible, and you will be unsure as to what help and support you will get while on the way. That is when you should have one of these kits ready to go.

Prepare 72 hour kits for every person in your family. Start by getting a rucksack that is a size and capacity that the person can carry all day. You do not have to buy the bag to start putting together the items of the kit, however. Set aside two complete sets of rugged clothes that you no longer wear, but would serve well in an emergency. Then plan on what you are going to need for food, water, and shelter, and get it. Pack light so you can take it all.

Start preparing immediately, and be ready for when disaster strikes.

Create your emergency preparedness checklist for you and your family. See how to do it at 72 hour survival kits.

Do You Know The Basics About Family Survival Kits? For

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Think back across the last 10 years and about disasters that caused disruption of the fragile food supply chain that brings everything to the supermarkets. What if you were in the Gulf Coast area when Hurricane Katrina hit? How about within a few hundred miles of Mount Saint Helens and the ash fall area? Now ask yourself if you are a place that could be affected by a natural disaster like an earthquake, hurricane, flooding or anything else that can disrupt the food supply chain.

Do you have loved ones in your family that depend on you to provide for them? How would you feel if you can not take care of your family and children? Visualize what it would be like day after day looking at your hungry and thirsty children and not being able to do anything about it. The time to stop something like that from taking place is now.

Here are three tips to help you get started on putting together a plan.

Make sure you have a safe place that everybody knows to come to. For many people this will be their house, but it also could be a cabin up in the woods, or a relative’s house. It is best to have a place that is accessible and won’t have hordes of people that will take your supplies.

Have a source of water, a way to keep it, and a way to get fresh water. A good way to do this is to have a well dug on your property. Another is to find a river or pond close by and ensure you have water filtration equipment on hand.

Have a reserve of food available. You can start by getting some cases of canned soup and hotdogs locally, but to do this well you should calculate the quantity of calories that you may require based on the quantity of people that are dependent on you and how long you think food will be needed. Also, make sure that food does not spoil by rotating it regularly or getting food created for long-term storage.

The time to prepare for a disaster so you can ensure your survival of your family is before the disaster happens. Make a plan and take action now.
