Anchor Babies, The 14th Amendment, And Economic Collapse

There has been much discussion in the media and government over the 14th Amendment to the Constitution and the impact it may have on immigration.

Also called the Citizenship or Naturalization Clause and ratified July 9, 1868, it declares: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens in the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

The 14th Amendment reversed the Dred Scott vs. Sanford decision of 1857, which prevented any blacks in America from ever becoming legal citizens, with full rights and privileges. The Citizenship Clause effectively forced Southern states to make blacks legal citizens. The decision to ratify the Constitution and successive decisions in the 142 years since have been intricate and divisive. However, people are calling for another look at the amendment because of the ease in which illegal immigrants’ children are becoming citizens and, thus, mouths to feed on the government dole.

In the early years of the twenty-first century, illegal aliens now play a considerable part in states’ current budget crises. The parents take advantage of the welfare state for their new American citizens while paying little to no taxes to support it. California is now threatened with bankruptcy because of such actions.

In addition to California, Texans are also feeling the burden of instant American citizenry. About 60,000 babies are born to illegal immigrants every year in that state, costing the healthcare and education systems billions of dollars. In the face of liberal ire, State Representative Leo Berman (R-Tyler) has promised to bring a bill to the Texas State Legislature that would forbid the state from issuing birth certificates to children born to illegal immigrants.

In 1868, there had been no Great Society. Therefore, exploitation of the welfare state was not at the forefront of the writers’ minds. But now, it’s a significant problem and one that some lawmakers are questioning.

Democrats, who traditionally love unfettered illegal immigration, say conservatives are the bad guys, and that it’s about winning votes in the November election and not about repairing the immigration crisis (although they would never say it’s a crisis). They’re also going back to the old talking point that conservatives care nothing about the children. They can’t just go back onto the streets, they screech self-righteously.

But those of us with common sense know that the federal government and individual states cannot afford to pay for infinite extractions from the welfare state’s funds. American citizens are already tired of having the government’s grubby paws in their pockets, especially with Obama’s misguided policies for “revivifying” the economy. Liberals squawk about the innocent children who deserve to be Americans just because they were born here on our dime. They may be innocent, but their parents are not entitled to free healthcare. They should be deported back to their home country along with their children. However, changes to constitutional amendments are complicated and rather uncommon. Therefore, this is not the last we will hear on the issue. Liberals, take note: If we try to take care of everyone, we’ll soon be taking care of no one.

What Were The Stimulus Grants Of 2009 Supposed To Do?

It has been a rough 3 years for the economy in America but there are some signs that things may be getting better. People are slowly starting to spend again and home prices seem to have stabilized meaning that better things might be ahead.

Unemployment, while still very high, is starting to gradually come down from it’s peak of over 10%. There are some that say the stimulus bill and grants of 2009 were an essential element of the improved state of the economy.

These grants were intended to fund things that were neglected in recent years. Educational programs for children in grade school are an example of this. Investing in these programs helped to lift the burden off of parents by allowing the children to experience more at school. The children develop hobbies and they stay after school in order to allow parents the freedom of not worrying about hiring a sitter.

The stimulus grants were also supposed to help lower income students pay for the increasing cost of college. This means that children will be able to attend higher education instead of dropping out after high school. There is a very high drop out rates all across the country and this leads to extreme gaps of income within the United States.

There were other issues that were tackled by the stimulus bill and the grants it gave out. Jobs have been temporarily created as money is used to improve our bridges and roads. There are many parts of our country that could use some modernization and some of the grants went for that purpose. It will take years for all these improvements to be made so the benefit won’t be seen right away.

There have been many areas that were neglected in the past ten years from education to construction. These grants were intended to address these issues and make this country a better place by improving one aspect at a time.

The U.S. Government’s Irresponsible Spending Has To Stop

It has been one whole year since the 2009 stimulus bill was passed and it is still in the news almost every day. Many people still don’t fully understand that that bill was meant to give money to businesses as well as state and local governments and not individual people.

If you are a person that needed help, one of your only options for benefiting from the bill was to get a job that came about as a result of the stimulus. It is also possible that you could have gotten some form of mortgage assistance as well but that didn’t apply to too many people. The bill did not impact government grants even though many people continue to look for grants thinking there are more of them available than usual.

People are still trying to find ways to make money, get jobs, and make ends meet in 2010. The stimulus bill did nothing to lower the unemployment rate and people are still having the hardest time of their lives finding work. What did we really get, if anything, for the 787 billion dollars the government is handing out?

Whenever huge sums of dollars are talked about like that, there is always a group of people who think the government is just giving away money. They might have gotten that perception from the Bush stimulus bill that sent checks to many households in the country to try to spur on the economy and get spending going. People will forever hope that a similar check will come in the mail and that they will be given more free money.

Of course there is really no free money and everything comes with a cost. People who work and pay taxes are the ones footing the bills and in today’s system, there aren’t enough of those people. If everyone shared the burden of taxes equally, there might be more respect for money in general and more people would understand that everything comes with a price.
