Changing The Way The World Is Run – 5 Steps To Make The World A Better Place
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010Many people think that they do not have the ability to change the world, which can be frustrating. However, we could potentially change the world into a more democratic place in just five steps – this article will explain how.
Step 1: Setting up a World Parliament
All levels of government have some kind of parliamentary system – except for the United Nations. The UN in its current form suffers from an acute democracy deficit in the Security Council, where the most important decisions are made. Therefore, we need a system which has democratic legitimacy and is peopled by representatives of the people of the world. This could be called the United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA).
Step 2: Nurturing a Public Mind Shift
The formation of the UNPA could be part of the public mind shift that is already happening in the public around the world at the moment. We need to encourage more people to move to a higher level of thinking where they see themselves not just as individuals but also as citizens of the world.
Step 3: Creating a New Global Political Philosophy based upon Conflict Resolution
From this mind shift, we can create a new global political philosophy, which will have moved on from the old thinking of the last millennium.
Step 4: Global Law-making
International law is breaking at the boundaries – we need global laws to replace it and to move beyond national sovereignty.
Step 5: A Transformed System of Global Governance
The result of following these steps will be that we can achieve a democratic system of global governance which provides representation for the people, by the people. This will mean that we can nurture a new generation of global leaders who are democratic, representing the voice of all the people of the world.
If we were to follow these steps, the world would certainly be a better place – we would have real representation on a global level, meaning that people could participate in the decision-making process and ensure that their voice is heard.
Go to The UNPA Club. The UNPA Club is for anyone frustrated with the way the world is being run and who want to see real change in the world. http://www.unpa-club.org has been created as a meeting place for members to support global campaigns, share ideas and contribute towards making the world a better place to live. Together, we can work for the long term objective of transforming global governance, including how global decisions are made.
