Look what came in the mail today! Your super-awesome set of funny t-shirts that you’ve ordered from the Internet just showed up and you couldn’t be more excited! There is nothing you can’t do! You are King of your Domain, and you will march forth into the wilderness to conquer all with the hilarity of your funny t-shirts! You decide that the ground of your first comedy conquest will be at the vegetable stand of your local Farmer’s Market, because you are in dire need of fresh veggies for the stew you are making later that evening.

That seemed like a great plan until you actually arrived and left the safety of your vehicle. Once you walked up to the fruit and veggie stand you popped your chest out so that everyone could read your funny t-shirt in order to join you for a laugh. Well, that’s not what is happening. What’s happening is that you are being yelled at by an old farmer lady and being chased back to your car. Something has gone wonderfully wrong. You have offended everyone with one of your funny t-shirts. I wonder what could have happened?

The problem lies with a generational gap the size of the Grand Canyon. You grew up nursing from the Internet like a calf from an udder. You have learned much of what you know from things you saw on the Web. The older generations only know of the Internet as a place to check your bank account. Think of all the terrible, profane things you’ve seen on the Web. Don’t you think that may have blurred the lines of what is offensive and what is not within your own mind? The word “jaded” does not even begin to touch upon how you view funny t-shirts. You don’t even know what “offensive” means any longer.

You may not realize it due to your jaded nature, but your funny t-shirts could very well be offensive. If you are too jaded to figure it out, you need to look carefully at your shirts and run through a mental checklist of offensive material to make certain your shirts are safe to wear out in the real world. You also need to understand that some things that seem hilarious on a computer, may not be so funny to everyone else. Just make sure that your shirt isn’t about anything sexual, offensive words, religious, or political statements. Simple, right?

After the American Revolution, the architects of America began the implementation of the Constitution they drafted. Next, came the Amendments laying out how each State should operate. One area in particular included each State establishing a well organized group to defend the State, the American Constitutional Guard.

To make sure that the transgressions that the colonists suffered under the King would never again take place under the newly fashioned elected government, every man older than eighteen had placed upon his shoulders the responsibility to be part of such a militia with the intent of protecting and defending those around him. The private army was to be designed as a defense and prevention only. Specifically to keep the new government from gaining military control over the several States.

Over the years, many of the states have not allowed for such a defensive and preventive group to exist in the way that was envisioned. As such, many people have taken the burden upon themselves and organized groups to serve in this capacity for the state in which they reside. Most of these assemblies are operated well within the law, by placing themselves under the Constitution. While they are not a threat to the public they have been slandered by others with a specific agenda. Those who malign the militia typically espouse group think ideology in favor of authority, rule, and riches.

Lately, these organizations are called hateful and riotous, and allegedly support acts of hatred towards others. These accusations have spawned organizations aimed at eliminating hate crime and hate speech to keep an eye on them in order to report any perceived infraction to the authorities. There is no evidentiary support offering proof that the majority of these units have broken the law in any fashion by prompting others to break the law. They have been the aim of others with the idea of inciting unrest for one ideology in favor of another.

These units support traditional values outlined in the Constitution. They believe the right of the individual should not be superseded by the alleged rights of the majority. Members of such units include, preachers, armed forces personnel, and officers of the law that place a great deal of value on the same ethics contained in the Constitution more than two centuries past.

The American Constitutional Guard is provided for by the 2nd Amendment and should not be infringed upon by any legislation. Today, much of the aforementioned amendment has been misconstrued in the sense of individual rights pertaining to firearms and their regulation as well as passing legislation trying to fulfill the militia clause with the National Guard units in each state.

Another aspect of this intentional warping of intent deals with the formation and operation of the Army National Guard. With the Guard, the Presidency has taken the control from the State governors as was designed originally.

One programme permits children to enlist in the army of 1863 for an hour in order to get a sense for what it was like for soldiers of the day and what it was like for the children that helped them fight.

Another programme consists of a story-teller recounting stories of what it was like to be a child in the days of the Civil War and the role that kids played both in the war and in civilian life in those days.

Gettysburg is a fascinating place to visit whether your family was involved in the battle there or not. Many of the combatants’ names and place names like Devil’s Den and Cemetery Hill will already be known to you and a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park will bring them back to life for you.

Independence Day (4th July) – this, the most important US holiday, marks the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. It was first commemorated in 1777 and is marked by fireworks, parades and speeches.

Labor Day (first Monday in September) – this, the proposal of Peter J. McGuire, the president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, was taken up in 1894 to celebrate American workers.

Columbus Day (second Monday in October) – Christopher Columbus and his crew landed in the Bahamas on Oct 12th 1492. It was first commemorated in 1792, although it was not officially recognized until 1909. It is a cause of special pride to Italian-Americans, who claim the Genoan voyager as their own.

Veterans Day (Nov 11th) – or Armistice Day commemorates the end of the First World War on Nov 11th 1918. It was made a legal holiday in 1938, but its name was changed in 1954 to honour all American veteran soldiers.

Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November) – it was first commemorated in Plymouth County, Massachusetts in 1621, the year in which the Pilgrims landed in the New World to give thanks for the new harvest and the new land they had colonized. President Lincoln proclaimed it a holiday in 1863.

Christmas Day (December 25th) – Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Prior to their adoption of the Western solar calendar scheme, the Chinese almost wholly followed their own lunar calendar for determining the times of planting and harvesting and festival days. Although people in China today use the Western calendar for almost all business, governmental and practical matters of daily life, the old method still serves as the basis for determining many seasonal holidays. This coexistence of two calendar schemes has long been accepted by the people of China.

However, this does not only happen in China, it also happens in most other Eastern countries, like Thailand, and most Arabic countries.

A lunar month is determined by measuring the period of time needed for the moon to complete its full cycle of 29 and a half days, a standard that makes the lunar year a whole eleven days shorter than its solar counterpart. This difference is made up every 19 years by the addition of seven lunar months.

The 12 lunar months are further divided into 24 solar divisions characterized by the four seasons and periods of heat and cold, all of which bear a close relationship to the yearly cycle of agricultural work.

The Chinese calendar – very much like the Hebrew calendar- is a combination of the solar and lunar calendars in that it strives to have its years concur with the tropical year and its months coincide with the synodic months. It is not surprising that a few similarities exist between the Chinese and the Hebrew calendar.

For instance, an ordinary year has 12 months, a leap year has 13 months. An ordinary year has 353, 354, or 355 days, a leap year has 383, 384, or 385 days. When working out what a Chinese year will be like, one needs to make a couple of astronomical calculations.

First of all, you have to determine the dates for the new moons. In these cases, a new Moon is the completely black Moon (that is to say, when the Moon is in conjunction with the Sun), not the first visible crescent, as is used by the Islamic and Hebrew calendars. The date of a new moon is then the first day of a new month.

The reason why the majority of countries which had their own calendars had to dump them in favour of the Western, Julian calendar that we use today, is business. First the British and then the Americans ran international business and they used the Gregorian calendar. Anyone who sought to work with them had to follow suit. This is why national policy often varies from local custom in Third World countries.

The government desires to trade on the International markets, but the ordinary family in the country can not. So, the government adopted the Gregorian calendar but the people only pay lip service to it. I live in Thailand and people here do not even use the 24 hour day divided into two halves. Their day has four sections of six hours each and the first part starts at 6AM, not midnight. Therefore, they have four 4 o’clocks a day, for example but no 7 o’clocks. They are also 543 years ahead of us, although this is more common, for instance in Muslim countries.

11 – the British government rules that General Pinochet is medically unfit to stand trial for suspected crimes against humanity in Chile during his presidency.

13 – executives at the nation’s leading drugs companies say they want to cooperate with Clinton to institute Medicare coverage for prescription drugs this year.

15 – Arkan, the notorious Serbian paramilitary leader was shot dead in a hotel lobby in Belgrade.

It has been a rough 3 years for the economy in America but there are some signs that things may be getting better. People are slowly starting to spend again and home prices seem to have stabilized meaning that better things might be ahead.

Unemployment, while still very high, is starting to gradually come down from it’s peak of over 10%. There are some that say the stimulus bill and grants of 2009 were an essential element of the improved state of the economy.

These grants were intended to fund things that were neglected in recent years. Educational programs for children in grade school are an example of this. Investing in these programs helped to lift the burden off of parents by allowing the children to experience more at school. The children develop hobbies and they stay after school in order to allow parents the freedom of not worrying about hiring a sitter.

The stimulus grants were also supposed to help lower income students pay for the increasing cost of college. This means that children will be able to attend higher education instead of dropping out after high school. There is a very high drop out rates all across the country and this leads to extreme gaps of income within the United States.

There were other issues that were tackled by the stimulus bill and the grants it gave out. Jobs have been temporarily created as money is used to improve our bridges and roads. There are many parts of our country that could use some modernization and some of the grants went for that purpose. It will take years for all these improvements to be made so the benefit won’t be seen right away.

There have been many areas that were neglected in the past ten years from education to construction. These grants were intended to address these issues and make this country a better place by improving one aspect at a time.

It has been one whole year since the 2009 stimulus bill was passed and it is still in the news almost every day. Many people still don’t fully understand that that bill was meant to give money to businesses as well as state and local governments and not individual people.

If you are a person that needed help, one of your only options for benefiting from the bill was to get a job that came about as a result of the stimulus. It is also possible that you could have gotten some form of mortgage assistance as well but that didn’t apply to too many people. The bill did not impact government grants even though many people continue to look for grants thinking there are more of them available than usual.

People are still trying to find ways to make money, get jobs, and make ends meet in 2010. The stimulus bill did nothing to lower the unemployment rate and people are still having the hardest time of their lives finding work. What did we really get, if anything, for the 787 billion dollars the government is handing out?

Whenever huge sums of dollars are talked about like that, there is always a group of people who think the government is just giving away money. They might have gotten that perception from the Bush stimulus bill that sent checks to many households in the country to try to spur on the economy and get spending going. People will forever hope that a similar check will come in the mail and that they will be given more free money.

Of course there is really no free money and everything comes with a cost. People who work and pay taxes are the ones footing the bills and in today’s system, there aren’t enough of those people. If everyone shared the burden of taxes equally, there might be more respect for money in general and more people would understand that everything comes with a price.
