Jon Huntsman Issues For America

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Previous Obama ambassador and two-time Utah governor Jon Huntsman is campaigning within the 2012 republican presidential election, yet many of us don’t know very much with regards to him on the issues. Plenty of bits of gossip spread when he declared and folks were speedy to label him as a moderate republican as a consequence of his affiliation with the Barack Obama and his position on family value issues. So what does he envision regarding the issues?

Although he is not signing the pledges that require the candidates to perform in a particular manner when they’re in office, he says he doesn’t need these kinds of pledges. The first pledge had been Taxpayers Protection Pledge which unfortunately he declined to sign. The form is kind of a ‘discontinue the rhetoric concerning increasing taxes’ effort and tries to pressure people in politics to keep their promises. Huntsman states that the evidence is out there and it reveals he’s without a doubt devoted to reducing taxes.

Minimizing taxation had been certainly one of Huntsman’s highlights as governor of Utah and was graded number 1 of all fifty governors with the libertarian firm the Cato Institute. When he was in Salt Lake City he shortened their state taxation code and reduced sales tax from 4.4% to 3%. This sort of tax strategy is one thing almost all the hopefuls are preaching about doing on the countrywide level should they prevail over the president in ‘12.

A promoter of partnerships for gays and lesbians he just isn’t expected to take the social conservative vote and therefore he will be bypassing the Iowa Caucuses, yet he claims he’s skipping it due to his policy regarding ethanol. In 2009, right before he had been about to work as US ambassador inside the Obama administration, he endorsed an ‘09 Utah piece of legislation that would stop the prohibition on civil unions for gay and lesbian people. He isn’t going to back gay marriage, yet is convinced it must be up to the states to decide. While asked about New York’s newly passed law permitting homosexual marriage he said that he would respect their final decision as leader.

He affirms he’s in opposition to abortion and possesses a strong pro-life reputation. He’s professionally established pro life legislation. By way of example, in Feb of 2009 he authorized legislation that would establish 2nd trimester abortions prohibited, legislation requiring parent approval for abortions, a law that educates females concerning the complications and method of abortion along with a a law that created a legal fund for individuals that had abortions and are filing legal cases. All bills had been put into law with the Utah congress and signed by the governor.

He has a solid position on foreign policy saying that we should work a lot more tightly with China as a partner to help influence North Korea to get rid of their nuclear weapons plan. What’s more, he’s pleased with the relations which have come about amongst Taiwan and China. Having resided inside Taiwan for many years when he had been younger, he is convinced he has sturdy experience on cultivating a positive future in Asia. He is a promoter of Israel and visited the region before taking the reigns as ambassador. He is against engagement within Libya expressing that we merely cannot afford it and that military operations are expensive and not crucial for security.

One thing which is ambiguous currently is his position on Healthcare reform and several individuals say he is an advocate of democrat types of change. Back in ‘07 he mentioned health reform in Utah as being an bill that have to have a mandate and was comfortable with demanding individuals to be insured. Nonetheless, after political pressure the mandate was taken out of the bill and today says he is against mandates. The healthcare bill itself did in fact decrease taxation and enhance the private market. In a current statement he said healthcare change ought to center on marketplace based levels of competition and empower individuals to produce their own individual decisions.

With regards to gun rights he flubbed with a radio station interview with republican radio anchor Hugh Hewitt, expressing he would not veto an assault weapons ban. Though, he then quickly took back his statement stating he misunderstood the question and would certainly definitely veto a law if it reached his desk. He declares he’s a huge ally of the 2nd Amendment and amusingly referred to his surname as proof of his devotion to safe guarding hunter’s gun liberties.

Many are critical of his determination to skip Iowa and suppose this could certainly cost him a few votes inside other states. If Huntsman believes he can stay away from the religious citizens he is unquestionably wrong. The impression he could be giving out is the fact that he’s not ‘their’ candidate and thus ultimately the religious may not pick him. In the upcoming 2012 republican presidential debate we’ll possess a clearer idea on his opinions.

The Issues Pawlenty Believes In

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Tim Pawlenty, former Minnesota governor, is making a bid for president in the republican primary of 2012, yet where does he position himself on the issues? Let’s take a look at Pawlenty and where he stands on the concerns of Americans.

He suggests if we can transform the state of mind of friends and family then we can easily proceed closer to ceasing abortions in the US. In Minnesota the governor was able to take on the “Women’s Right To Know” law which slows down abortion and helps inform women of all ages ahead of opting to terminate their pregnancy. He is endorsed by the Minnesota pro-life organization “Citizens Concerned for Life” as well as assigned a judge into the state Supreme Court. In latest promises he’s mentioned he wants to turned around Roe V. Wade and opposes fetal stem cell researching. Yet he realizes that a suspension only works from the courts.

Pawlenty argues the best way to improve the economic system and the pending deficit should be to reduce government waste and alter entitlement packages for instance Medicare insurance. He claims we need to look at tax fees for businesses, citizens, capital gains costs and the tax rules entirely to make them stimulating rather than a burden. Yet he hasn’t taken a transparent position on the Flat Tax, he admits that we ought to try to make the rates more flat yet wouldn’t endorse for an overall Flat Tax program. He criticizes Ben Bernanke and the FED for producing additional money and devaluing the US dollar.

He was addressed by some democrats in his state for making a one billion dollar budget shortfall in ‘09 and substantial waste in the Minnesota. Dems blasted Pawlenty for making a 6.2 billion dollar budget deficit within the state, but Pawlenty denies there exists this kind of shortfall and says this is a bureaucratic calculation. Does Pawlenty do what he says on the troubles of taxation? He’s recently been charged by members with the DFL party in His home state of raising taxes on the State residents by use of what the republicans call “fees”. By way of example these fees were increased on cigarettes, educational costs, businesses, car parking tickets, marriage certificates, and a 2.7 million dollar raise in property taxes through ‘03-’07.

Pawlenty is in opposition to Obamacare and feels Minnesota ought to file suit over the federal government take over. He likened Obamacare to being GM in the Seventies in which it presumes one size fits all, he instead feels health care should be more like an apple iphone where buyers will make the judgments in their health-related needs. If he were president he’d overturn the federal healthcare legislation and relinquish the authority back to the states. In addition he says you’ll find state programs which do aid people who may need sufficient healthcare alternatives and as an alternative to prescribing a requirement for those people they should be provided more competitive treatment with the private market.

He is opposed to gay marriage and wouldn’t assist in overturning the Defense of Marriage Act. In Minnesota he supported a state prohibition on non traditional marriages and selected judges while governor that would in no way support another definition of marriage. Moreover, he would try to reinstate Don’t Ask Don’t Tell within the armed forces and concurs with the members of the military that really don’t agree to the law’s repeal.

Pawlenty is an advocate for firearm rights that happen to be legally bestowed to People of America within our constitution. As governor he authorized the concealed guns legislation for responsible individuals. He’s regularly received A scores by the NRA during the last 10 years for his work to guard the legal right to possess guns.

He backed the no flyzone in Libya to give the rebels a window to overthrow Gaddafi, however he believes Obama was far too late. He believes that a little meddling in different countries through the Middle East will be necessary. A suggestion he presented would have been to remove ambassadors and frankly denounce dictators. He did state he would not put soldiers on the ground, however would explore all the other alternatives.

Herman Cain 2012

Friday, March 11th, 2011

With all the recent controversy over the electability of other 2012 possible presidential candidates, Herman Cain might just be the true conservative we’re looking for in 2012. Herman Cain, a syndicated radio talk show host and once time senatorial candidate in 2004, reflects true social and fiscal conservative values without carrying baggage from his past.

Cain, some republicans believe, will come out strong in the primary due to his socially conservative values that are sure to inspire many Iowans next year. Furthermore he is free from the personal scandals affecting some of the other possible candidates. In terms of electability, he might just be more electable than some of the stronger names out there. His background in business and being a Washington outsider will surely open the eyes of some Tea Party activists, especially with his stance on permanent tax cuts for business and citizens and downsizing big government.

Cain’s business experience and ranges from being CEO of the popular pizza chain “God Father’s Pizza” to bank chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He has also been successful as an executive for Pillsbury and analyst for the Coca Cola company. Cain argues that if only 7% of Obama’s advisers have ever worked in the private sector how can they expect to fix the economic problems facing America today. He believes the only way businesses will open their doors for new employees is to cut taxes, deregulate and throw out the legislation that is putting roadblocks to success. If businesses are allowed to thrive, then they will hire more workers, which gives more money for people to spend in the economy.

Cain stated at the American Conservative Union that he wants to throw out the whole tax code by eliminating the IRS by putting an end to corporate, income, and payroll taxes. Instead he says we should implement a federal retail sales tax where Americans will only have to pay taxes for the services or goods that they buy. When the Bush tax cuts were being debated he argued that we shouldn’t merely extend the top corporate tax cuts, but rather make them permanent. Other expenditures on business also have Cain talking, such as Obamacare which also affect business tax. Cain has been outspoken on government health care since his run-in with Bill Clinton at a town hall meeting in 1994. He asked Clinton what he should tell his employees after the government health care plan is enacted and he has to lay off his workers. Clinton sheepishly responded by saying businesses would only see a one and a half percent increase in their overall cost. Cain told Clinton flatly that his numbers were wrong.

Rather than just doing the talking, as he has been on his Atlanta based conservative talk show, Herman Cain said he would like to actually act on his ideas and he feels this is the best timing for a 2012 presidential run. With the other candidates in the field looking wounded before the battle starts, Cain is someone to consider as the many months of debate push forward.

Looks Like Newt Gingrich Will Run in 2012 For President

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Former speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich is one of the first to throw his hat into the ring of what will soon be a hotly contested republican primary. As of this day the Gingrich campaign is establishing a website and setting up an exploratory committee. An official announcement of candidacy is expected within the next week or several days. Well known for his wit and intellectualism Newt Gingrich has a powerful name in American politics and over his tenure has gathered the support of many Americans who identify as conservative republicans. Moreover Newt has been in politics for many years which provides him with a wealth of donors he can tap into for his primary and presidential run.

Gingrich will have to face some questions about electability from both democrats and republicans because of his past moral faults. The former speaker has been married three times and it was reported that he was having an affair on his first wife while she was battling cancer. Newt was confronted with the issue of his two divorces during a speaking event at the University of Pennsylvania and owned up to his faults in the past. He said that God is forgiving and if citizens want to look to the past then as president he would be irrelevant. However he said, if citizens are willing to look to the future then he will be ready to have that debate.

In his campaign Newt will be expected to address his core beliefs concerning the national budget, deficit and economy issues. Newt has stated that America is spending way too much and in an effort to fix our spending we should cut entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and social security. He has stated he would like to end bureaucracies and replace them with business minded organizations for financial efficiency. To tackle the deficit Mr. Gingrich would like to cut taxes across the board both for citizens and business. He has called for major reform to the tax code that makes it simple, understandable and less bureaucratic.

Newt is a religious man and in 2009 he changed from a being Baptist to a being a Catholic. He is a devout social conservative relating to political issues. He has stated that homosexuality is a sin and gay marriages should not be recognized. Moreover, he has stated that he opposes adoption rights of gays and lesbians. The former Speaker opposes abortion and thinks that abortion doctors should serve prison time, however mothers seeking abortions should not be penalized. At an event in Florida Gingrich stated that Supreme Court justices should be thrown out do to their loose interpretations of the US constitution.

A recent Gallup poll shows Romney and Huckabee tied at an 18% favorability rating. While Sarah Palin is in at third place for 16% of favorability. Gingrich himself is in fourth place at 9%, however we should expect this number to increase due to the fact he is the first well-known candidate to officially enter the race. We should expect to hear from the Newt campaign in the coming weeks.

As editor in chief of republican2012.org, a Republican 2012 campaign watch website, Derek Thomas is also trying to foster a republican base for the 2012 elections. Writing objective opinions about the candidates is the ultimate goal to support the next republican presidential candidate 2012.

Charlie Chaplin – From World’s Favorite Actor to Run Out of the Country in 20 Years

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

To say Charlie Chaplin was popular is like the Pacific Ocean is wet.

It is difficult for us to even imagine the immense fame and celebrity he enjoyed in the 1920s and ’30s. Today we know the names of literally thousands of celebrities, personalities, sports stars and news-makers (Why do they call them “stars?” Because there are so many!) But at the dawn of the 20th century, mass media was just being created. Movies were brand new. Baseball was just becoming the national pastime. Radio was just taking its first tentative steps and TV was 50 years away.

Into this world strolled a genius at his art form. Charlie just had an innate understanding of comedy and how to make movies.

Fatty Arbuckle and Mary Pickford were the first major movie stars but Charlie Chaplin soon eclipsed them and everyone else. He literally had no competition. Even today, Arbuckle, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd are well-regarded, but Chaplin is still considered the all-time master at silent movie comedy and silent movies in general.

Unfortunately, Charlie’s leftist politics and less-than-puritan personal life (he had the unfortunate habit of marrying teenagers) finally started to eclipse even his movie fame during the cold-war era. Mixed with the fact that he could never regain his silent-movie fame in the talkies, he finally left America all-together in 1952. At the time he was being accused of being a Communist (untrue) and he had his visa revoked by the American government (he was a British citizen.)

He vowed never to return to the United States, saying “I have no further use for America. I wouldn’t go back there if Jesus Christ was president.”

Well, since Jesus never became president (at least as far as we know) he decided to return during the reign of the “other guy.” In 1972, during the presidency of Richard Nixon, Charlie made a triumphant return to accept a Lifetime Achievement Oscar at the Academy Awards.

Honesty Distinguished Abe Lincoln

Friday, February 18th, 2011

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” President Abraham Lincoln was noted for telling the truth, something our fellow Americans appreciate more and more as we find it less and less in today’s situational politicians and opportunists. He was not a politician, but a statesman.

As a store clerk, Lincoln overcharged one lady customer six cents and walked three miles to settle the debt. Another time, he left a small weight on the scale while pricing tea and again walked a distance next morning to return the right amount of tea. “Honest Abe” he was called because he set an example working with integrity. The stories of his honesty followed him through his legal and political career.

Abe Lincoln seemed to live with bare necessities. “No man ever had fewer advantages than Abraham Lincoln. As a boy, he was the poorest of the poor. No rich friend held out a helping hand. But see what he had already accomplished by pluck, perseverance, and honesty! He was very awkward and far from handsome, but he was so modest, so unselfish and kind, that every one who knew him liked him. He was a true gentleman-a gentleman at heart, if not in outside polish.”

(“The Story of Abraham Lincoln/In the Legislature,” Wikisource, The Free Library, accessed February 4, 2011.“The Story of Abraham Lincoln/In the Legislature,”)

Lincoln began his political career at the age of 22. The people sent him back for a second term to Illinois Legislature. He was ultimately sworn in as president on March 4, 1861. He fought four years against on onslaught of counter-mixing opinions to preserve the nation against all odds. He decided to meet the humane purpose of the war head-on with the Emancipation Proclamation to free the slaves. On November 19, 1863, he delivered the most famous speech in American History, the Gettysburg Address, over a terrain littered with thousands of war dead from both sides.

“He had not had access to many books, but he knew books better than most men of his age. He knew the Bible by heart; he was familiar with Shakespeare; he could repeat nearly all the poems of Burns; he knew much about physics and mechanics; he had mastered the elements of law.” Yes, Lincoln avidly carried and read his Bible. “In regard to this Great Book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book” (Baltimore, 1864).

Voting: A Matter of Principle

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

In the United States of America, every single adult citizen is entitled to a vote. This right was hard fought for and died for American people. Many people today don’t even know what kind of truly heroic effort was made just to be able to be granted that fundamental right. Today our auditory and visual senses are drowned with noise, and flashing images from the TV, the internet, the radio. This leads to cultural disorientation blurring the lines between what is of value and what is completely without value whatsoever.

It is infact in the interest of the corrupt that the everyday joes do keep a certain level of what should be called societal attention deficit disorder. As long as every day citizens are distracted from things of substance it indeed ensures they are truly unlikely to ever take the time to keeps themselves abreast on issues or the track records of politicians.

Does the person you’re voting for have a record of staying true to their word, or even trying to? Or do they make large commitments knowing no one will ever recollect what they said six months prior? If they’re able to keep you chasing your own buttox long enough, they will never ever have the need to worry about you noticing any of them telling lies to the media.

Of course, politicians do not always intentionally lie. Indeed, sometimes they simply make commitments that they find difficult to keep down the road when the mounting challenges of their office begin to crush them. Nonetheless, overpromising and then consequently underdelivering must be accounted for. It’s unfortunate that most men and women are too busy tending to their every day lives to know the facts before they walk into that voting booth.

Every voting day you’re likely to hear people pounding the drum for everyone to get out and vote. However, if you are not firmly decided on who to vote for until a few hours before the time to vote has arrived then you are totally disrespecting of the privilege in the first place. So yes… get out in vote, but make certain that you really do know the person you are voting for is an individual of integrity. If you do not, then you should try harder the next time in advance.

Life In the United States of America

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Almost everyone has heard of “the American Dream.” While America continues to be one of the wealthiest nations in comparison to others, is the American dream a reality for every one?

There are 48 inland states and two states away from the rest. Each state is uniquely different in resources and commerce. There are several states whose primary industry is agricultural goods. Many states are more industrial. But each has its own center of commerce. This means that there are a lot of opportunities for those who wish to stay in the USA.

The United States has a federalist style of government. This means that the federal government regulates some areas but leaves other areas completely up to the discretion and leadership of local governments. For the states, this means that regulations and laws pertaining to many areas may be different from state to state. For instance, states may have various speed limits for drivers or different requirements for carrying car insurance on vehicles.

America also has a wide range of cultures. In some ways each state can have its own culture. Many are influenced by their history. For instance in southern Louisiana has a deep influence from their French heritage and it is reflected in its culture and architecture. The thirteen original states are heavily influenced by their unique heritages as well. Each state has its own personality which can be observed simply by driving from one state to another. State to state and region to region are widely different based on the culture and history of that area. One can almost choose what type of culture in which they desire to live.

The landscape of America is just as widely differing as its cultures. There is truly a little bit of everything. The deep south is warm, humid and lined with oceans. Along the northern borders one will find plentiful snow. There are several mountain ranges to enjoy. And there are also several desert ranges to be explored. Pretty much any environment one desires can be found in the USA.

There are two main reasons immigrants choose to move to America, money and freedom. The United States is still one of the leading countries in the economic world. Immigrants find it easy to work within the free enterprise system of the USA and find good success. The freedoms in America make it an appealing place for all.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania – For American Civil War Enthusiasts

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

If you are at all interested in either Pennsylvania or American history, you will certainly have heard of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and the historic activities that took place there during the American Civil War. The three day long battle that took place there in July 1863 was cruel and bloody, but was hailed as a victory for the Unionist North.

Even so, one quick look in the Union Army burial ground in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on Cemetery Hill will persuade you that the victory came at a very high cost. The cost in human life and human suffering was gigantic on both sides. Later on in the same year, Abraham Lincoln gave a discourse which was to become famous throughout the world as the Gettysburg Address.

These days, the Gettysburg National Military Park is a tranquil place, but it serves as a moving reminder of the battle that was fought, the strategies employed, the heroism of the combatants and the willingness of military leaders to sacrifice the common soldier for political objectives.

If you go to the Gettysburg National Military Park, you would do well to begin your trip in the visitors’ centre. There you will be able to pick up books, pamphlets and leaflets to help you orientate yourself when you are on the battlefield, even if you are familiar with how and where the genuine battle was fought.

If you think that it would be too much for you to work things out for yourself or if you do not have a lot of time, you could join one of the frequent guided tours. If you are somewhere in between these two positions, you could first watch a film in the Cycloarma Center, where there are also historical items recovered from the battleground on the numerous excavations that have taken place over the nearly 150 years since the battle at Gettysburg took place. If you do not look around the museum before you go on to the battleground, you should look later.

If you are going to Gettysburg to enlighten your children about that most important epoch of American history, you should first check out the special interest programmes available to 7-12 year olds in the warmer summer months. One programme permits children to enlist in the army of 1863 for an hour in order to get a sense for what it was like for soldiers of the day and what it was like for the children that helped them fight.

Another programme consists of a story-teller recounting stories of what it was like to be a child in the days of the Civil War and the role that kids played both in the war and in civilian life in those days.

Gettysburg is a fascinating place to visit whether your family was involved in the battle there or not. Many of the combatants’ names and place names like Devil’s Den and Cemetery Hill will already be known to you and a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park will bring them back to life for you.
