Cargo Screening: Providing Cargo Safety
It is very important that imports and exports go through the proper cargo screening before leaving or entering any country. The most vulnerable continents that are in great need to have proper screening is probably Europe and North America.
The shipments must be checked very well to increase the peoples safety.If any cargo checked is doubtful it needs to be immediately reported to the different authority’s and if done this will save lives. The great importance of screening methods should not be taken lightly.
Things have changed a lot since the war on terrorists started many years ago and this makes screening even more important. The terrorists are always trying to find a way to hurt innocent people by sending packages with bombs in them and trying to blow something up.
Of the many laws out there the safe port act, which is a standard in the industry and has had many improvements to the law over the years is full of different safety requirements for shipment screening world wide. Laws are much less tolerant since the attacks during 9/11 against the United States of America and the different railway attacks throughout Europe. One of the main threats Osama Bin Laden is still out there along with the Al Qaeda terrorist network which is recruiting more than ever and this puts everyone in a very dangerous situation.
Passenger companies must now check everything brought on board before they will allow anyone on board whether it is an airplane or boat. Screening will continue to grow and will probably never decrease unless the terrorists are wiped out. Anyone that travels internationally is only allowed to bring certain items with them and a lot of things that were allowed years ago have been banned now.
There are several ways to look for illegal or dangerous items and X-ray screening is becoming one of the industry standards. The x-ray machines can check packages before they get on board, and this is a very important type of screening that is available today. The oldest method on the planet for finding bombs, and other illegal contraband are dogs. Dogs are trained very well to seek out these dangerous items on a shipment and can even sniff out many items that an x-ray may miss using the nose. Another very important part of the cargo process is security personnel, which are trained to visually seek out destructive items or strange looking people.
For many safety reasons cargo screening is growing and will more than likely continue to be a big part of keeping lives safe all over the planet. If shipments are dangerous and not screened properly it could mean the loss of lives.
